Within BHP’s massive Australian operation, a team of 80 employees were assigned to a new three-billion-dollar project. To help ensure the project’s success, the Big Australian appointed SynergyIQ to support and develop the capacity of the project’s leadership team. 

The Brief

Analyse the capabilities of the project’s leadership team and provide a comprehensive program that enables them to deliver a successful project in the context of a demanding environment.

Our Response

Using the Human Synergistics leadership diagnosis tool (LSI), SynergyIQ mapped team members’ leadership styles against desired traits.

After identifying capability gaps, we developed two bespoke leadership programs – one for senior leaders and one for managers – tailored to the unique needs of the participants, business and industry.

Based on a set of leadership principles rather than a competency framework, the programs enabled participants to leverage their individual strengths and contributions.

A peer coaching process was used to gain commitment and tailor conversations to individual needs and circumstances.

Feedback from participants showed that confidence, meaningful conversations and instances of authentic feedback increased significantly by the end of the program.
